A planted rainforest terrarium is more than a glass box – it is a living slice of tropical nature.
A delicate balance is created between orchids, bromeliads and other botanical rarities, which is only truly complete with the right animal population.

Rana Terraria therefore stands for deliberately selected, small amphibians, geckos and invertebrates., which blend harmoniously into such structurally rich display terrariums. Our species enrich elaborately designed bioactive systems without damaging delicate plant structures.

We don't offer just any variety of species, but a curates a selected range of animals, tailored to our own terrarium systems and show terrariums.

Specialization: Poison dart frogs from Central and South America

Our particular passion lies with poison dart frogs. After many years of intensive breeding work, we are now once again breeding a small, exclusive selection of high-quality offspring.

Species and local forms from the following genera are represented:

• Dendrobates
• Epipedobates
• Ranitomeya
• Oophaga
• Ameerega
• Phyllobates and others

Exclusively offspring with clearly traceable origin and required documents.

Especially in structurally rich rainforest terrariums, these species develop their natural behavior – from courtship to brood care.

Small reptiles for tropical terrariums

In addition to amphibians, we carry selected, small reptile species suitable for vertical rainforest and transitional terrariums.

These include:

• Geckos of the genus Lepidodactylus (e.g. mourning geckos)
• Day geckos of the genus Phelsuma (e.g., bamboo day geckos such as Phelsuma klemmeri)
• small anole species

With correct lighting, temperature control and structuring, these species can be kept very well in planted tropical systems and can sometimes even be kept together with, for example, poison dart frogs.

Other tropical amphibians

In addition, we occasionally offer other amphibians, especially tropical tree frogs such as:

• Agalychnis (e.g. red-eyed tree frog Agalychnis callidryas)
• Phyllomedusa species

Invertebrates for bioactive systems

A stable rainforest terrarium only works with a functioning microfauna.

We carry various invertebrates as components of bioactive systems:

• tropical isopod species and springtails (“soil police”)
• selected ornamental insects such as mantises or stick insects

Woodlice and springtails support the decomposition of organic matter and stabilize the ecological balance in the terrarium. Stick insects and mantises are suitable inhabitants for very small terrariums and even bottle gardens.
