In tropical terrariums, regular rain is part of the natural rhythm of life. Many plants, microorganisms, and of course numerous terrarium animals – especially poison dart frogs – depend on a fine mist being sprayed through the terrarium several times a day.
An automatic irrigation system reliably and precisely takes over this task. Instead of spraying manually several times a day, the system simulates natural rain cycles – controlled by automatic timers.

The sprinkler nozzle largely determines how fine and evenly the spray mist is distributed in the terrarium.
High-quality nozzles create a fine tropical mist that moistens plant leaves without flooding the terrarium.

Rainwater should be filtered before use to prevent dirt particles from the collection container from entering the nozzles.
If a nozzle does become clogged, it can usually be easily cleaned or replaced.

In many tropical terrariums, it has proven effective to run short misting intervals of about 20 seconds two to three times a day. This ensures that plants are regularly moistened and the humidity remains stable.
Not absolutely necessary – but it makes maintenance much easier. Especially in poison dart frog terrariums or heavily planted rainforest terrariums, automatic misting is now almost standard practice.
We strongly advise against this. Hard water can clog nozzles, leave limescale stains on the glass, and damage sensitive plants. We recommend rainwater or reverse osmosis water instead.
This depends on the size, the plants, and the design of the terrarium. Small terrariums often manage with one or two nozzles, while larger systems require several.
In many cases, the nozzle can simply be cleaned or briefly descaled. Alternatively, nozzles can also be quickly replaced.
